Brenda Mainwaring, Director of Public Affairs for Union Pacific, presents a grant in the amount of $10000 to Grand Foundation board members Tom Ziller and Ray Evans. We are grateful to the Union Pacific for this gift and in helping us reach our goal.

THE GRAND GOES HOLLYWOOD!

And the winner is…we’ll be right back after this brief announcement with the winner of Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Picture. Don’t touch that dial!

February 27 will be the 83^rd Annual Academy Awards presentation and you can see it unfold at the Historic Grand Theatre on the 300” screen.

You are encouraged to dress as your favorite actor/actress or character in a movie.

The doors to the Grand awards ceremony will open at 5:00 PM with the pre-awards red carpet walk, interviews, VIP passes, pictures etc. just like they will be doing in Hollywood. The VIP passes are $10 per person or $15 per couple. Included in the VIP pass are special gift bags and hors d’oeuvres.

There will be a raffle for special cardboard stand-ups that are currently on display in the lobby of the Grand Theatre.

Local TV personality, Kent Boughton will be the MC for the evening.

Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. All donations will go towards the matching grant from the Peter Kiewet Foundation. Most of the major grants the Grand has received will not be realized until the project has been completed.

The Huskers are going to the Holiday Bowl on December 30^th and here is an opportunity to see them play on the giant screen at The Grand Theatre in downtown Grand Island and help The Grand with a fundraiser at the same time. All funds raised that night will be matched by the Peter Kiewit Foundation. Doors open at 5:30 pm with the Music City Bowl and tailgating with special concession items, including hot dogs and nachos and then the Huskers kick off at 9:00 pm. Bring your friends, see these bowl games on the giant screen and help The Grand Theatre with your tax deductible donation.

Here’s this week’s Grand Plan Raffle prize: Three Nebraska Basketball Tickets and Reserve Parking Spot donated by Jim Phipps. Tickets may be purchased before the show at the Grand, or during the week from these downtown merchants: Howard’s Jewelry, Time After Time, On The Avenue Antiques and Heartland Antique Mall. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, November 23. Tickets are $1.00 each, 6 for $5.00, 12 for $10.00 and 24 for $20.00.

Our First 3D Weekend

After everything that we’ve been through in the last month in getting all this new equipment set up, hearing the oohs and ahhs from the children (and adults) when the first 3D images hit the screen this weekend made it all worth it! Thanks to everyone who attended and thanks to Troy from Pathogen Ink Photography for taking photos of the event! We’ll get them posted online when we receive them!

Special thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the Grand’s 5th Annual Car Show! The free will donations are appreciated and will help us to restore the Grand Theatre. The turnout was excellent and understand it’s a lot of work for those of you who exhibit your vehicles. We’ve received many nice compliments by those who attended. A fun time was had by all!

Restoration Details

1) The facade will be resurfaced with Reflective glass tiling.
2) The sign and marquee will be refurbished and repainted.
3) Neon lighting and motifs will once again decorate the facade.
4) The box office will return to the center of the entrance.
